Live vs. Home Study

LIve vs. Home Study

We originally contemplated this seminar as a live lecture course, during which students would sit in a lecture hall and listen to the professors talk.  Our associates took the existing pre-law programs for comparison purposes and quickly realized that the home-study method is far preferable to taking a live lecture course.  We observed that some of the students in the live lectures were so disengaged that they were playing games on their laptops.  Several of the students who did pay attention told us that they felt drained and tired by the end of the day.  Some commented that they had retained almost nothing from the afternoon session.  It was clear to us that home-study offers a much better approach.

Live courses expect students to brief the first three days of cases before they arrive and later to brief cases after an eight-hour day of listening to lectures.

Law schools normally schedule no more than three hours of classes in a day, because they have found that, after the first few hours, students have trouble learning, especially dense legal material.  An eight-hour day of lectures is already way too long without having to brief cases.

Our seminar allows you to schedule your pre-law preparation over whatever period of time you choose, which makes the material much more manageable.

It is better to learn the correct way to brief cases early on.  When using our home-study seminar, you can brief the cases for the first one-hour simulated class, watch the lecture, and compare your brief to the sample written by the professor.  Through this approach, you will learn how to write a good brief.

To attend a live lecture, you must travel and stay in a hotel, all of which can become a very expensive and stressful situation.  The costs of renting a lecture hall and of paying professors for every date and location are significant.  Since we avoid such costs, our price is much more reasonable, and you benefit from the savings.

You might think that attending a course that imposes an unrealistic schedule would be good preparation for law school, because it would accustom you to the idea of being overwhelmed.  Our philosophy is to provide you with the tools that you need in law school, so that you never get overwhelmed in the first place.  Law school work will still be difficult, but you will be in control of it.

One final note: With a live course, you only see a few professors at whichever location you attend.  With our home-study seminar, you will attend simulated classes and educational lectures at the location of your choosing from a wide variety of professionals, which you can pause to think, take notes, or take a break.

After much research and consideration, we have prepared and offer to you the most practical and cost-effective method of PreLaw preparation through our home-study seminar.
